The town of Sedlčany lies at the confluence of two streams, about 30 km east of Příbram.

The first written record of Sedlčany dates to 1294. The town square is home to the new Neo-Renaissance town hall, built in 1903, and the municipal museum in the old town hall. The oldest monument in the town is an Early Gothic church from the 13th century, south of the square.
